All aboard with Rubbish Friends
Southport’s Rubbish friends donned their distinctive orange jackets and got to work to make everything shipshape in time for Southport’s prestigious 24 hour race.
This year the race celebrates its half century at the West Lancs Yacht Club and is one of the most popular events in the dinghy calendar.
Councillor Pat Keith, Co-founder of Rubbish Friends said: “We had an extremely productive morning. Eighteen of our litter heroes turned out and between us we collected 28 bags of rubbish – it was a great morning’s work and a good physical workout climbing up and down the dunes! ”
Councillor Fred Weavers, an active member of the group said: “The sun was shining and having all our friends along made an onerous task easy.
“Many members of the public stopped and thanked us for keeping the town clean. So if you have an hour to spare and would like to be a rubbish friend to Southport please do get in touch and help clean up the town.”
