Cllr Ian Maher, Leader of Sefton Council, said: “Yet again we have managed to put on another amazing air show in Southport.
“Such was the popularity of Saturday’s display that we believe it was the busiest Saturday in the show’s 24 year illustrious history.
“Tens of thousands of people headed to the Southport seafront to witness some amazing displays and to see the Vulcan escorted by the Red Arrows on Saturday was truly a sensational sight.
“Images of this soon went global and sadly it was the last time the Vulcan will be seen at the Southport Air Show as the aircraft is being ground after this year’s display season.
“Sunday also witnessed a special flypast of The Meteor and MiG 15 and this was the first time it has ever happened as well.
“After the show it is always busy on the roads leaving Southport but I’m sure most people would say it is a small price to pay for such superb displays.
“Next year will be our 25th birthday with the Southport Air Show taking place on September 10/11 so please put the dates in your diary now!”
