FURIOUS commuters are calling for answers about the ongoing refurbishment of Ainsdale Railway Station.
OTS reader Frank Yates said that he is angry that the refurbishment is still ongoing although it was initially due to be completed by October 2017 – and that no updated final end date has been set.
Meanwhile, retired bank worker Mary Dunn, 74, who reques- ted that temporary shelters were installed on the Southport – bound platform to help commuters deal with the harsh winter weather, is furious that only one has been erected – and that it is “flimsy, small and the sides are made from chicken wire, offering barely any protection from the hail, wind, snow and rain.”
A spokesperson for Merseyrail previously said that the chal- lenge they faced was that the Southport-bound platform at Ainsdale station is narrow, making it difficult to install tempor- ary waiting areas.
Mr Yates said: “We were told that the full refurbishment would be completed by the end of October, now we find that the bridge might be open at the end of this month, and the Southport – bound platform might be completed by the end of March!
“Rumour has it that the Liverpool-bound platform will stay as is because of ‘operational difficulties’ – presumably this means that the money has run out.
