Ainsdale musician to join BBC Music Day free festival in Liverpool

Ainsdale-based musician Astles will be taking to the stage as part of a free festival taking place in Liverpool for BBC Music Day this Friday (September 28).

Commuters at Liverpool Central station will be treated to music from the region’s best emerging artists on Friday 28th September courtesy of Merseyrail Sound Station.

Twelve artists, including Astles, will play the Merseyrail Sound Station Festival which is the culmination of the first music development programme designed by Merseyrail in collaboration with music magazine Bido Lito!

The artists playing the festival at Central Station represent diverse music genres and showcase the breadth of talent in Liverpool’s thriving music community.

Starting at 3pm, the event – which forms part of the nationwide BBC Music Day 2018 – will feature three special artist collaborations with the Sense Of Sound choir performed exclusively at the festival.

The singer-songwriter, aka Daniel Astles, describes his style of music as ‘ambient electric guitar with big vocals’.

Suzanne Grant, Merseyrail Commercial Director said “The Sound Station Live Festival is a great opportunity to see the artists who have come up through the development programme and we are really proud of how the project supports new music in our great city.

“I’m looking forward to seeing all the talent showcased at Liverpool Central and hope that our passengers and everyone involved enjoy the festival.”

Merseyrail Sound Station takes a group of young musicians through a series of workshops which serve to hone their skills, introduce them to music industry insiders and receive advice from high profile artists.

Merseyrail Sound Station’s innovative programme has included an industry day at the British Music Experience involving representatives of festivals, record labels and management from across the country. Artists also took part in a studio workshops with seasoned tutors and benefitted from an artist masterclass by Becky Hawley of local indie stars Stealing Sheep at the Philharmonic Hall.

Following the event on the 28th the application window will reopen for artists to register for a chance to take part in the second semester of the project which begins later in the year.
