Ainsdale Beach toilets no longer caught short after local Labour campaigners’ intervention

Ainsdale’s beach toilets are due to get a substantial upgrade after local Labour activists called upon the services of Sefton Council.
The shorefront area is regularly patrolled by the Ainsdale branch of Southport Labour as part of the beach cleaning activities of their environmental action volunteers, known as the “A” team.
The group spotted the poor condition of the local loos and contacted Sefton Cabinet member Councillor Ian Moncur who quickly set about rectifying the problem.
Ainsdale’s “A team” leader Dave Flynn explained:
“One of our team had to use the toilets after helping with a recent beach clean and couldn’t help but notice how dilapidated and shabby they were. Sadly, things like this are happening all over Ainsdale, Southport and beyond because of huge cuts to the council’s budget by the Libs Dems and Tories. We decided to enlist the support of Labour colleague Ian Moncur who had previously helped Kew residents to get their play area re-equipped.”
“Ian then met with us on site and discussed how the council could help upgrade the toilets. He and his officers subsequently prepared a comprehensive action plan which included all of our ideas and others too. Sefton has already implemented some improvements with a full-time attendant now on site till 7 pm to look after the facilities and more work to follow when costings are finalised. We love it when a plan comes together.”
Councillor Moncur said he was “delighted” to have been able to assist:
” The volunteers do a great job of cleaning up the area so I was only too glad to be able to come up and see what we could do to help when they made their request. Times are extremely tough for local authorities at present due to the cuts but we try our best to respond and I hope local residents appreciate the upgrade and the efforts of all those involved.”
