Academic explores the effect of caregiving within communities
An acdemic from Ainsdale has explored the extent of caregiving and its impact on communities across the UK.
Dr Valerie Gant, from Ainsdale, Merseyside, is an experienced social work practitioner and senior lecturer in social work at the University of Chester. Her personal experience of having a daughter, now 18, with severe learning disabilities has both inspired and informed her in-depth professional knowledge of caring.
She has penned her new book, Working With Family Carers, which will be released by Critical Publishing in June, which explores caregiving’s impact on individuals, health professionals, groups and communities.
It explores real-world issues facing carers and brings to focus the “hidden world that many people do not get to see”.
Dr Gant said: “Caring responsibilities are likely to affect everyone at some point in their lives. I’m really interested in the issues that carers face. These can be feelings of isolation and loneliness and that no-one understands what they are going through. She is passionate about supporting and upholding the rights of carers and is donating money raised from the sale of the book to the charities Carers UK and Carers Trust.
