Southport Model Railway Society marked the 170th anniversary of the town’s first railway with a special celebration yesterday .
The Liverpool Crosby and Southport Railway opened from Eastbank Street station in Southport to Waterloo in 1848, when the resort was just 50 years old.
Now enthusiasts from the group celebrated the occasion in style.
They marked the anniversary with a return rail trip from Southport to Waterloo on Saturday, September 15 with some of the members wearing Victorian costumes, before enjoying a heritage open-top bus tour around Southport followed by refreshments at the club’s headquarters.
