A state-of-the-art new care home in Ormskirk hosted an open day for national Care Home Open Day on Friday 19th June 2015 and invited West Lancashire residents to joined them for a cuppa and a catch up.
As part of Care Home Open Day celebrations, Abbey Wood Lodge hosted a drop in session from 11am to 4pm to encourage local people to find out more about the residential care home.
Organised by Care England and supported by care providers, charities and care regulators, Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative which encourages care homes to create lasting links with their local communities.
Situated in Ormskirk’s Coronation Park, Abbey Wood Lodge officially opened in November 2014 and provides a wide range of short and long-term residential care services.
Part of Athena Health Care, Abbey Wood Lodge is the first of the group’s purpose built residential care homes to operate a completely new and unique approach.
Each floor in the 61-bed care home has been carefully designed to provide different levels of care and residents can enjoy a variety of services including a hair salon, to give that real sense of home from home.
Its dementia care centre features colour specific areas with familiar signs and patient memorabilia, as well as the latest technology, to provide a safe and secure environment.
Gaye Clark, Registered Manager at Athena Health Care Group, said: “We’re delighted to be supporting national Care Home Open Day as we’re committed to developing relationships with our local community in Ormskirk and West Lancashire.
“At Abbey Wood Lodge our doors are always open and so we wanted to get the word out there and welcome people into our fabulous new home on this nationally recognised day.
“By hosting the drop-in session, members of the public will be able to learn more about the services we provide, have a tour of our first-class facility and meet the friendly team.
“Families who have loved ones diagnosed with dementia can also use the drop in session to learn more about Alzheimer’s. As one in three of us will develop dementia in their lifetime, it’s important that as a care provider we help people understand more about the illness.
“Visitors and links with our local community are really important to us, so if you are unable to attend on the day but would like to find out more about our services, we’d love to hear from you.”
