Yet another terrified, vulnerable cat was saved from certain death and is now recovering from her ordeal at Freshfields Animal Rescue.
Victoria was saved by the kindness of a member of the public on Saturday 4th April.
Someone had taped up a cat inside a plastic cat house, put it in a black bin bag to suffocate and dropped the whole lot over the wall into Victoria Park in Crosby.
Luckily a lovely man who clears up voluntarily in the park saw the package and was suspicious of the size and weight. He brought her tothe car park at Freshfields Animal Rescue, where the cat was safely handed over to one of our staff (whilst carefully observing social distancing protocols).
Operations Manager Dawn Hurst said:
“At the moment we cannot admit animals because of the coronavirus lockdown. We are full to capacity in our Cattery. We have a reduced staff level on site at the rescue, but we could not say ‘No’ to the plight of this poor girl. Of course, she has been named Victoria.
Victoria is now warm, fed and being given the attention she needs. She’s beginning to relax and take an interest in things – including her pink mouse! She ate well overnight, and seems to have a very sweet, gentle nature. We’ve all fallen in love with her.
Welcome to Freshfields, Victoria – and possibly an unborn brood – as she is rather plump. Our vet will examine her tomorrow and we will then know whether or not to expect the patter of tiny paws…
Dawn continued:
“If any member of the public finds themselves in a desperate situation with an animal, we would urge them to always contact us before thinking about putting the animal’s life in danger by abandoning it in this way. Please consider contacting us by phone, 0151 931 1604 or kennels@freshfields.org.uk before things come to a crisis like this.
We are here to help you. Even if we are not able to immediately take in the animal, we will always offer other help and advice. We may be able to suggest alternative solutions, help with referring you to other services or give you other recommended rescue numbers. Together we can work out the best way to help you and your pet.”
We’re here for each other. Your support makes a BIG difference to the animals. Please help us protect the animals if you can, and donate at www.freshfields.org.uk or call 0151 931 1604”
Thank You.
