A look at the top scorers from Euro 2024 Qualifying

7th June 2024

In every international tournament, goals win games. And that will be no exception when it comes to Euro 2024 this summer.

As football fans prepare to jet off to Germany for an exciting competition, it will be interesting to see who will win the coveted Golden Boot for the tournament’s top scorer.

There are plenty of world-class strikers who will use the group stages as a platform to build some momentum, with the likes of England captain Harry Kane arriving on the back of a 44-goal season with Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.

When looking at pre-tournament Euro 2024 betting odds, it’s clear there is a real race for the Golden Boot this summer. It will be interesting to see if any of the strikers who topped the scoring charts throughout the qualification rounds will throw their names in the hat too, with plenty of goals coming outside of the most-tipped nations.

With that in mind, let’s look at the top scorers from Euro 2024 qualifying and assess their chances of glory this summer.

Romelu Lukaku – 14 goals

Despite scoring four goals against Azerbaijan on Matchday 10 to finish qualifying with an overall record 14 strikes, Romelu Lukaku is an outsider of 18/1 to finish as top scorer.

The Belgian leads the line for his county at a fifth successive tournament, looking to add to his tally of 83 goals in 114 appearances for the Red Devils.

Lukaku suffered an inconsistent season domestically, struggling for game time after a loan in Italy at Roma. However, with parent club Chelsea recently announcing a new manager in Enzo Maresca, there is an outside chance the 31-year-old could return to the Premier League as part of the Italian’s plans should he impress this summer.

Cristiano Ronaldo – 10 goals

Just pipped to the post by Lukaku, Cristiano Ronaldo is ageing like a fine wine, and his goals give Portugal an outside chance when looking at a bet on Euros offer after he scored 10 in qualifying.

Now 38 years old, Ronaldo enters his international swansong to add experience to a new generation of Portuguese talent, having played in a record number of Euros.

Roberto Martinez restored Ronaldo to the starting line-up and he has returned the favour by finding the back of the net in the big games. If he can hit the ground running with a group that includes Turkey, Georgia, and the Czech Republic, he could sign off in style with another Golden Boot for the collection.

Kylian Mbappé – 9 goals

Kylian Mbappé came so close to winning back-to-back World Cups with France in 2022, narrowly losing out to Argentina in Qatar. But, he would love to redeem himself with another international trophy under Didier Deschamps.

Now officially a Real Madrid player, Les Blues talisman bagged nine goals throughout qualifying as a new-look French side cruised through their group, finding themselves as favourites to win the tournament outright in Germany.

There is a plethora of attacking talent to provide a strong supporting cast for Mbappé, who will be looking to arrive in Madrid in a form befitting the reigning champions of club football in Europe.
