Paymentshield presents charity of the year with £5,900 donation.

Paymentshield – the Southport-based provider of insurance to mortgage intermediaries – has raised over £5,900 for The Queenscourt Hospice, a local charity that provides support for the people of West Lancashire, Southport and Formby.

Fundraisers at Paymentshield took part in a variety of activities throughout 2016 to raise money for the hospice, which was the company’s chosen charity of the year. These include The Great North Run, the world’s largest half marathon, as well as a Star Trekk Walk, five-a-side tournament and golf day. Employees also took part in dress down days and hosted a staff quiz night to boost funds.

The money raised will help to care for patients with serious illnesses, enabling them to achieve the best possible quality of life. The charity receives less than a quarter of its funding from the NHS, relying on charitable donations such as Paymentshield’s to help keep the hospice running.

Rob Evans, managing director at Paymentshield, said: “Queenscourt Hospice is a cause close to many people’s hearts so we were proud to name them our charity of the year for 2016.  The care that Queenscourt team provide makes a huge difference to the lives of patients and their families, giving support when it matters most.  On behalf of all at Paymentshield we hope that these funds will help the hospice continue to provide the very highest level of care.”

Queenscourt Hospice has its own purpose-built premises on Town Lane, as well as providing an in-patient service for those wishing to remain in the comfort of their own home. Its in-house Terence Burgess Education Centre provides training and best practices for staff, doctors, nurses and carers and the hospice continues to gain a reputation nationally as a centre of excellence.

Jane Royds, director of non clinical services at Queenscourt, said: “We cannot thank Paymentshield enough for its generosity and for naming us charity of the year last year. The money raised will allow us to provide even better patient care and I’ve no doubt that our patients’ families will also be extremely grateful.”

In 2016, Paymentshield launched a volunteering programme which allows staff to spend two working days per year giving back to the local community as part of its ongoing corporate social responsibility initiative.
