70mph winds expected in Southport overnight as yellow weather warning issued

The Met Office have issued a yellow weather warning across Southport and areas of the North West for Wednesday evening.

Winds of up to 70mph could be set to batter the Southport coast.

The warning takes effect at 8pm this evening and lasts until 5am on Thursday morning.

The Met Office predict that: “Across North Wales and northwest England, winds are expected to peak during the early hours, when gusts will widely reach 50 to 60 mph, and possibly around 70 mph close to some coasts.

“Here winds will ease somewhat by daybreak, and then more markedly during the morning.”
