Jacques Aubergine Restaurant Review – Twelve (Southport)

7th June 2016

Photo: Mr Aubergine visits 12

Dear Connoisseurs I am Jacques Aubergine, a lover of good food and drink. I have eaten at some very good restaurants and some very bad restaurants across the British Isles.

I have had service that was excellent and service that I just wouldn’t recommend!

This will be your local guide to gastronomy! I will review the quality of the food, service, value for money and ambience, as well as my overall impression.

For potential diners, you will gain a helpful guide of the place to, or not to dine.

The only catch is that the restaurant will not know that I am coming, so you, the readers of otsnews will get an unbiased review of Southport’s restaurants have to offer you!

Bon appetite

Jacques Aubergine Restaurant Review – Twelve (Southport)

We were greeted by Paulo the owner with a warm and friendly welcome.

The restaurant is small, modern and simple yet the decor is very effective.

Twelve seems to have a chic, cool city feel to it and different from anything else Southport has to offer.

Paulo recommended a great Portuguese beer for me and my partner enjoyed a nice cold glass of Sauvignon blanc.

Whilst we looked over the menu, which is small however there is an excellent varied choice of meat, fish and vegetarian options. Paulo gave us a selection of entrée, mushrooms, parma ham, olives, breads, chorizo which were all delicious and complimentary.

ots-news-menu1-ots-12-southport-food-reviewTo start I chose the salt and pepper chicken and my partner opted for the special scollops with a beetroot pureé.

As everything is cooked and prepared it does take slightly longer to be served, but it is so worth it! Although sitting and chatting did not bother us at all.

The salt and pepper chicken was cooked to perfection with chilli and onions giving the perfect kick (£6.25)

2-ots-12-southport-food-reviewMy partners scallops looked mouth-watering, presentation 10/10 (£6.95)

My partner said they were cooked beautiful – exactly how scallops should be. The beetroot pureé was a perfect accompaniment.

For main courses we ordered beef stroganoff with steamed rice and my partner went for sea bass off the specials board.

Again when they arrived great presentation and perfect portion size.

The sea bass was fresh and flavoured to perfection. The sea bass melted in the mouth.(£18:95)

4-ots-12-southport-food-review6-ots-12-southport-food-reviewMy partners Stroganoff was thoroughly enjoyed. The beef was so tender and of an excellent quality meat. The french creamy sauce was full of flavour. (£18:95)

5-ots-12-southport-food-reviewService throughout the meal was brilliant, never did we need to ask for anything and nothing was too much trouble. Paulo was very attentive.

It was a very relaxing meal with a great city feel ambiance.

Dessert, although both of us were full we could not resist – all deserts are home made and looked so tempting. We opted to share a ‘Pastel De Nata’ a traditional Portuguese custard involved by a sweet pastry. It did not disappoint – Simply Gorgeous!

7-ots-12-southport-food-reviewI would recommend Twelve, this has to be up there with Verite in Birkdale Village…  Good luck with your new venture Paulo!
