Motorhomes were originally designed for family road trips, but in recent years millennials and zillennials (those aged between millennial and generation z) have grown from child to adult and want to explore the wilderness on their own or with a partner. This is excellent news, of course, as everyone should appreciate the great outdoors, but it means that there are amazing motorhomes out there that are not designed for families.
We have sifted through the market not only to find suitable motorhomes for families but also to find the best!
Adria Matrix Supreme
The Adria Matrix Supreme was built with families in mind. Space is key, and but so is simplicity, which is why this particular RV has two fixed beds at the rear of the bus. This means that parents don’t have to faff around trying to create a bed when their children are screaming from tiredness. Instead, the bed is always made, so a quick nap is never a problem.
There are additional beds set into the camper, but these have to be constructed each night. Don’t fret, though, as these are simple to build and seamlessly fit into the ceiling, so tall people don’t have to crouch down through the space.
The interior is well spaced with enough seats to comfortably seat 5 people around the table. Granted, the two driving seats need to swivel around, but this method creates an easy space-saving trick.
Elddis Autoquest
Elddis is another company that recognizes the importance of space, but this brand is best suited for a family of foodies. The kitchen area is central to the interior, creating an open space for lots of pots and pans.
For the kids, there is a partition that can be used to shut off the lounge. This means that when the kids are sleeping, the adults can stay up and not disturb their youngsters.
Itineo Nomad
The Itineo Nomad is another motorhome that understands the importance of space, but unlike the Adria Matrix Supreme, they think space is more important than pre-made beds. They have a section dedicated to a bunk bed conversion that also includes a double bed too.
These need to be made, which means they would be better used on older children rather than kids who need naps, however, the additional space means that more people can stay in the camper!
Winnebago Travato
The other motorhomes we have talked about so far are Class A campervans, which normally have tons of space and feel luxurious, but not all families have the money for something so expensive. That’s why we wanted to include the best-selling Class B motorhome on this list too.
A Class B motorhome are vans that have been converted into a camping space, and Winnebago’s travato camper van has that same “van life” aesthetic but with enough home-like addons to be perfect for families.
Despite the exterior looking like a van still, the interior looks like a fully decked-out Class A motorhome. There is a pull-out slim-line table with comfortable chairs that are suitable for sitting in while the vehicle is moving.
Unfortunately, the van only sleeps two people, but if you want to teach your kids the camping life, you can easily store a tent in the storage rooms to create a family experience. Or you can give the kids the double beds, and the adults can lay under the stars.
Dethleffs Globetrotter
The Globetrotter is the perfect motorhome for families that care about their living room. Do your kids absolutely NEED a TV no matter where they are spending their days? Or is family movie time considered sacred in your home? Then the Globetrotter is the perfect choice for you, as it’s one of the only motorhomes on the market that understands the importance of TV as downtime. The television set is mounted on the wall and comes as standard, so you don’t have to worry about finding a place to put it.
Camping doesn’t have to be without its gadgets after all!
Chausson Exclusive Line
This smaller-sized motorhome is a great choice for people who want a TV as standard but also need space for their bikes. The back of this RV can be fitted with bike racks that can easily support a family of 5. Not only that, but the kitchen leads straight to the garage, which means that you can store more of your pantry items in an easy-to-find area without having to step out into the cold!
