The Mad Dog 10k takes place this Sunday, 7th February, with an expected 2,500 runners taking part.

The Race is organised by Southport Hesketh Round Table with all proceeds going to local charities and good causes.

This year the Event hopes to raise between £15,000 and £20,000 for local community groups and will also bring over 6,000 people into the Resort on Sunday morning.

Many of the runners and supporters will go on afterwards to eat in the Town, bringing valued revenue to the Resort.

This is the sixth year that the Mad Dog 10k has taken place and this year the Event is humorously subtitled “Raiders Of The Lost Bark”.

The Event has a marvellous atmosphere and has been voted the best 10k in the UK four times by various running organisations.  It is an extremely prestigious Event for the Town.

There will be extensive road closures on Sunday morning, on the following roads:-

Marshside Road, Fleetwood Road, Marine Drive, the Coast Road, Fairways, Esplanade and also some slight disruption on the Promenade (where the runners run on the pavement).

ots-mad dog course 2015Everybody is urged to come out and support the runners, but there will also be a number of live Bands, performing at various points on the course, providing excellent entertainment for spectators and runners alike.

Southport Hesketh Round Table would like to thank all the affected residents for their understanding, co-operation and indeed their support.  All Members of the Round Table give their time on a not for profit basis for local charities and good causes.

So, if you hear Mad Dogs howling on Sunday morning, you will know what it is!
