An 18-year-old man from Southport and two 17-year-old males from Formby were arrested at the property on suspicion of possession of a firearm. They have been taken to a police station on Merseyside where they are being questioned by detectives.
Detective Inspector Richie Jones, Matrix Serious Organised Crime, said: “The handgun that has been recovered will be subject to further examination but at this stage we believe it is a viable weapon.
“This was an excellent find and a potentially lethal firearm has now been taken off the streets.
“I would like to take this opportunity to reassure communities throughout Sefton that we will be relentless in our efforts to tackle serious and organised crime and bring those who use or store firearms to justice.
“I’d continue to appeal to people with information about serious and organised crime taking place where they live to contact MSOC Officers on 0800 230 0600. Information can also be passed to Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
